How it works: a guide for tutors
Run groups of students from other families. See how each one is going between sessions, choose what they practise, and send them notes.

Set up tutoring
- On the start page, choose Parent or tutor sign-in.
- On the Account page, under Tutoring, choose Become a tutor.
- Type the Name of your tutoring, which parents see, then choose Set up tutoring.
Make a group
- On the Tutoring page, under New group, type a Group name, such as "Year 8 Thursdays". Parents see it too.
- Choose Make group.
A group for each class or session time keeps your students easy to find.
Bring students in
- On the group's page, under Join code for parents, choose Copy code and give the code to the parents.
- A parent types it on their child's Settings tab, under Join code from a tutor.
- The child then appears under Students.
If a code gets passed around, choose Replace code. The old code stops working, and students already in the group stay in it.
See how each student is going
- The group's page lists each student, with what they're Working on, their Mastery, when they Last practised, and Needs help with: the mistakes they keep making.
- Choose a student's name for their page: their progress, their mistakes, their recent answers and their Placement test.
Choose what they practise
- On a student's page, under What to practise, choose a Topic, then Practise this topic.
- A tick box lets the student choose topics for themselves as well.
Send a note to a family
- On a student's page, type in the box to write to their family, then choose Send.
- Ideas for a note suggests notes from what the student has done lately, such as a skill they've just mastered. Write this note puts one in the box, to edit before sending.
- To set some practice with a note, choose a Topic to practise (optional). The student's practice moves to it, and the message has a Practise it button.
The student's parents see every message to and from the student.
Write to a whole group
- On the group's page, under Write to everyone in the group, choose Who it's for: Students and their parents, or Parents only.
- Type your message, then choose Send to the group.
- Each family replies to you alone: no family sees another's reply. Every conversation is on the Messages page, newest first.
Tidy up a group
- To take a student out of a group, choose Remove beside their name.
- To close a group, choose Delete group. Its students and their progress aren't deleted: you just stop seeing them.
Know what you see
- You see only children whose parents have joined one of your groups with your code.
- For them, you see their progress, answers and mistakes, and your messages with their family.
- Once a child leaves the group, you see nothing of them.
