JALCOG Adaptive TutorGuidesHelp for parents

How it works: a guide for parents

Your child practises at their own level, and you see how they're going: what they've mastered, and the mistakes they're making, with how to help at home.

To print this guide, or save it as a PDF, use your browser's Print.

Try the free maths check

  1. On the start page, choose Start the free check, and your child's year.
  2. Your child answers questions one at a time on your device. Nothing is marked as they go, and they can stop at any time.
  3. You get a report: Topic by topic, and the Mistakes we noticed, with something to try at home for each.

No sign-up is needed. The report stays on your device for 7 days. To keep it, choose Create a free account, then Save to your child.

Sign in and add your child

  1. On the start page, choose Parent or tutor sign-in.
  2. Choose Add a child. Give their Name and Year level, and a PIN (optional) if they'll sign in on their own device.
  3. Tick the box to agree, then choose Add child.

Get your child practising

  1. On your device: on the family page, choose Practise as beside your child's name. When they've finished, Exit brings you back.
  2. On their own device: they choose Student sign-in on the start page, then type the Family code from your family page (Copy copies it), their name and their PIN.
  3. The first time, they're offered a placement test to find their starting point, which takes about 15 minutes. They can skip it.

Keep the PIN between you and your child. You can change it at any time.

Follow how they're going

  1. On the family page, choose Progress beside your child's name. Their page has four tabs.
  2. Progress: their week, their skills, the Mistakes to work on and their Recent answers.
  3. Practice: the Placement test, to Start a placement test or Take it again, and the Daily goal: choose Questions a day and Days a week, then Save goal.
  4. Messages: messages with your child's tutor.
  5. Settings: Edit name, year or PIN, Tutor groups and Privacy.

Get the weekly report

  1. Each Sunday evening, at about 6 pm, we email a report on each child's week: how much they practised, what they mastered, and the mistakes to work on, with how to help.
  2. Turn it on or off on the Account page, under Weekly reports.

Reports go only to a verified email address: use the link in the email you were sent when you signed up.

Help with mistakes at home

  1. The tutor names each mistake your child makes, such as adding the tops and the bottoms of two fractions.
  2. The free check and the placement test link each mistake to a page on why children make it, and how to help at home. They're all at Help for parents too.

Join a tutor's group

  1. Get the join code from your child's tutor.
  2. On your child's Settings tab, type it under Join code from a tutor, then choose Join.
  3. The tutor can then see how your child is going, and send messages. You see every message, and you can Remove your child from the group at any time.

Look after your family's data

  1. On your child's Settings tab, under Privacy, you can Download all their data, or Delete their profile.
  2. To delete your own account, go to the Account page.

What we keep, and for how long, is in our privacy policy.

Tell us what you think

  1. Choose Feedback at the bottom of any page, say what it's about, then choose Send. We read every one.
